Dieter Berndt, Founder and Board Chairman
Dieter is a biophysicist by education, with a BS and MS in Physics, and an inventor with 28 years of experience in high tech environmental bio-science. Dieter holds over 100 patents in various high-tech areas and is experienced in the patent and intellectual property process. He is active in the Nevada Inventors Association, a non-profit organization to help inventors protect their ideas. Dieter has business acumen, vision, intuition, and resourcefulness to attack a problem area and derive a complete solution package.
Dieter worked in the field of biological waste decontamination and sterilization as a consultant for SAC International (Safe Alternatives Corporation, Danbury Conn.) where he developed and built the first Oxidizing Medical Bio-Sterilizer utilizing a new development in ozone technology. This system was far more competitive and reliable than the current micro-waving and incineration alternatives used in hospitals. Prior to SAC, he was a founder and the inventor of the Driozol delivery system for the Safe and Dry Company, Inc. He was also founder of Micro-Collagen Pharmaceutics, Ltd. and co-inventor of a unique wound and burn treatment system (incorporating a bio-erodible synthetic skin) produced by a cross-linked bovine collagen.
Dieter developed a silicone-based dry cleaning solvent system, which replaces the age-old hazardous solvent perchloroethylene (Perc) as well as other hydrocarbon solvents. In December 1999, he and his business associates entered into a joint venture with General Electric to globalize this technology. This venture is known as Green Earth Solutions, L.L.C., headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. In 2001, Proctor and Gamble also became a partner because of their detergent interest in future home dry cleaning systems. The Green Earth venture owns key intellectual property, which has positioned its growth throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Dieter is still a partner in Green Earth.
Apart from his activities with Green Earth, Dieter had vision and purpose to develop and patent a solution to the growing latex allergy glove problem. During his detergent development co-venture with GE/P&G with Green Earth, he developed materials technology that led to the “Drysil” delivery technology that is the backbone of new product development at High Desert. Dieter then added board members who have the knowledge and experience to advance this technology to a market that beckons with a great need for High Desert’s new products. The company will benefit from his vision, leadership, and ongoing talent for innovation.
