Gary L. Ailes DVM, Director

Dr. Gary Ailes is not your typical white-coated veterinarian. With a career spanning over five decades, Dr. Ailes has left his pawprints on the veterinary industry while pursuing many other ventures.

Dr. Ailes' journey began with two years at the University of Nebraska and moved on to a DVM degree from Colorado State University, but his thirst for knowledge also led him onward. Since then, he has never stopped pushing boundaries and exploring new horizons. Dr. Ailes has seen everything from the chaotic hallways of Central Veterinary Hospital in Fremont, California, to the bustling ownership of Sierra Veterinary Hospital in Carson City, Nevada. He knows the ins and outs of the industry like the back of his hand.

He married a wonderful lady on August 18, 1974. They have three grown children and five granddaughters.

Beyond the four walls of his clinics, Dr. Ailes has been a prominent figure in various organizations. A longstanding member of the Carson City Rotary Club, he served as president and brought his infectious enthusiasm to the role. As past president of the Carson City School Board of Trustees, he dedicated 12 years to shaping the future of education in his community. Dr. Ailes also held the prestigious position of the past president of the Nevada Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, where he championed the highest standards of veterinary care. He is also, past president and current treasurer for the Association of Veterinary Orthopedics for Research and Education.

You can find Dr. Ailes indulging in his diverse hobbies when he's not saving lives or attending board meetings. Whether he's trekking through the wilderness, casting a line into pristine waters, or soaring through the skies, his love for bird hunting, fishing, hiking, and flying knows no bounds. And let's not forget his infamous man cave—a sanctuary where creativity thrives amidst the somewhat organized chaos.

But Dr. Ailes is not just a man of leisure; he also has a philanthropic heart. As a board member of Feeding Pets of the Homeless, he has tirelessly worked to support and care for our furry needy friends. His dedication to this non-profit foundation exemplifies his compassion for all living creatures.
